This one was my fault. Texted a friend to wish her good luck on a show, wasn’t thinking, and ended up sending it to some random person. Well, they replied, rather confused. I apologized, wished them a cordial evening and, of course, good luck on whatever that person had to do that night—to which I got an equally cordial reply, complete with thank you and ditto. Thus began a bizarre and fascinating friendship with the human I shall only ever know as “Stranger.”

We still hit each other up from time to time, never discussing the specifics of our lives, merely wishing each other the best or offering advice when required.

It was like shouting out to the dark and howling void, and the void replied with a :)
